I heard you were interested in doing a booth at a Renaissance Faire. Good for you! I’m proud of you and I know you will succeed! I remember the first time I set foot at a renaissance faire, it felt like home and I realized I wanted to be a part of this amazing family.
First thing I will tell you is don’t get discouraged. There is a lot to do at first from figuring out your craft to finding your character. Have fun with it. Find yourself and don’t try to be like someone else. They may have had years to figure it out. Start with what your good at, do you like yarn crafts or leather? And if it takes you time to figure what to sell in your booth than find a booth to volunteer for. Most of these small booths won’t have enough to pay you but it will give you experience. When you find the project or craft you like to do a little research and find out how it was used during the 14th or 15th century.
Next work on your costume, all you need to start is one simple outfit. Don’t worry about a detailed costume yet, just get yourself a underdress and an overskirt or a shirt and pants. You know. The basics. You can build the details as you go so that each piece adds to your story.
Keep in mind if you can start out as accurate as you can with costumes and products then you will be accepted to more faires.
But more importantly HAVE FUN!
Everything will not come at once or be right for your first year. Be patient. It will come together.
And Remember I’m here for you. ❤
