Nalbinding, pronounced noll-bin-ding, is one of the oldest forms of yarn or fiber craft and can be found all over the world. Predating knitting and crocheting, fragments of bags, socks, and hats have given us an insight into the lives of the people that have gone before us. Some fragments have been found from 6500 B.C.! The origins are unknown but the fragments found give us the directions on how to recreate some amazing pieces.
My amazingly creative & caring husband hand crafted Nalbinding needles for Christmas. I am still learning this ancient craft of looping and binding these threads together but I can see that the fabric made is a strong weave and would have trouble unraveling if torn. Once I feel more confident I would love to teach Nalbinding to the world, so GET READY, but as for now I’m having fun experimenting.
